Drupal & React developer

Renzo Emiliano Carletti

I upgrade legacy Drupal sites and connect them to React frontends.

I build and maintain Drupal sites for universities and government, and connect them to React and Vue frontends through REST, JSON:API and GraphQL. Most of my work is upgrading legacy Drupal projects, making them faster, and adding the features each user role needs. Before I write code, I talk with the people who use the system, so the result fits how they work.

Selected work

Live sites I built or worked on. Each one with the problem, what I did and the result.

  1. Home page of Buenos Aires City

    Drupal consultant

    Buenos Aires City

    City government portal

    Problem
A Drupal 8 codebase with scattered content and a Drupal 10 migration ahead.
    What I did
Adapted content and Paragraphs for the Drupal 8 to 10 migration, fixed sync conflicts between both versions, and handled escalated incidents.
    Result
Content moved to Drupal 10 with a cleaner model for editors.
  2. Home page of Club San Jorge

    Modernization

    Club San Jorge

    Legacy modernization

    Problem
A legacy codebase with few conventions. Expensive to maintain and risky to change.
    What I did
Refactored the project with modern patterns, a clearer structure and maintainable practices.
    Result
Code the client can extend and maintain more easily.

Experience

  1. 03/2026 · 04/2026

    Drupal Consultant

    C&S Informática · Remote · Contract

    • Maintained and upgraded corporate Drupal platforms across dev, staging and production.
    • Adapted content during a Drupal 8 to 10 migration and fixed sync conflicts between both versions.
    • Took over high-priority incidents escalated from the original team and kept the platform online.
    More from this role (4)
    • Set up role-based access (RBAC) and publishing rules in Drupal 10, consistent across all environments.
    • Built JSON:API integrations and publishing workflows that keep unpublished content private.
    • Fixed configuration drift and dependency conflicts by standardizing Composer, DDEV and Drush setups.
    • Audited and refactored custom and contrib modules to reduce technical debt.
  2. 2023 · 2026

    Full-Stack Developer (Drupal + React)

    Activarte · Remote

    • Worked in an agile team that moved a monolithic Drupal site to a headless setup: Drupal serves content over REST with OAuth2, React renders the frontend.
    • Upgraded the site for speed and performance, and added features for each user role.
    • Wrote REST endpoints and OAuth2 flows between Drupal and the React frontend.
    More from this role (3)
    • Built custom React components that consume JSON:API payloads.
    • Worked in Agile sprints in Jira, with code reviews on Bitbucket.
    • Taught Drupal development to a teammate and helped with code quality in reviews.
  3. 2021 · Present Now

    Drupal / Moodle Developer

    UADER Rectorado · Part-time · On-site

    • Lead the university's web projects on Drupal and Moodle, and act as the main link between academic, administrative and government stakeholders.
    • Built and maintain three university portals with 57,000+ active users and 786,000+ events.
    • Built e-UADER, a course enrollment platform on Moodle's REST API: 2,000+ registered users and 1,100+ certificates issued in its first 4 months.
    More from this role (6)
    • Added ECA automations and custom Drupal modules that simplify each area's interfaces and workflows, so staff finish common tasks faster.
    • Upgraded the sites for speed and performance, and fixed recurring server bottlenecks.
    • Migrating a legacy Drupal monolith to a headless frontend with React and GraphQL.
    • Building a new internal university app from scratch with Vue.js.
    • Trained a fellow developer in Drupal programming, and train university staff to use the sites: publishing content, updating pages and creating certificate templates.
    • Building a multi-agent AI orchestrator that gives LLMs separate roles for code generation, review and deployment.

Drupal, in practice

What I do in Drupal and where I did it.

Drupal 8, 9, 10 and 11

Upgrades and migrations
Drupal 8 to 10 content migration for the City of Buenos Aires. Legacy UADER sites upgraded for speed.
Custom modules and ECA
Custom modules, hooks and ECA automations that simplify each UADER area's workflows.
Content modeling
Paragraphs, Views and Entity API behind the Ingresantes career finder.
Headless Drupal
JSON:API and REST with OAuth2 feeding React at Activarte. A GraphQL move in progress at UADER.
Access and publishing
Role-based access and publishing rules in Drupal 10, the same in dev, staging and production.
Config and tooling
Configuration management with Composer, DDEV and Drush set up the same way in every environment.
Commerce and integrations
Drupal Commerce connected to Moodle's REST API for e-UADER enrollments and certificates.
Search, testing, performance
Search API for site search, PHPUnit for custom code, and fixes for server bottlenecks on UADER portals.
Decoupled Drupal
  1. Drupal CMS content model · RBAC · workflows
  2. React frontend components · client routing

Editors keep publishing in Drupal while the React frontend ships on its own schedule. Each side deploys and scales separately.

AI in my workflow

Cursor and coding agents draft scaffolding, migrations and tests. For client and government code I use local models with Ollama. I review, refactor and test every change before it ships.
